While software spelling and grammar checks catch many errors, you know just as much as I do that a second set of human eyes is necessary. Left to its own devices, spell check doesn’t catch all formatting errors. It doesn’t know your unique spelling situations. Plus, it doesn’t always understand the correct context of word usage.
Even if you are good at catching your own typos, you still might miss stuff! When you are too familiar with your work, your eyes may automatically think something looks correct when it is actually incorrect on the page.
Even if we technically know the correct usage, simple grammar mistakes can be made when you are too familiar with your own writing or just too tired. Our eyes and brains sometimes fail us and may make us think we made a correction that we really didn’t make.
